Zacc McCabe was a trader who ended up helping Dylan, Laura, and Albert when they were travelling to the ocean. He then aided Charles by telling him where the children were headed.

Zachariah was a hermit who became Laura and Carl's friend. He lost the most precious thing in his life, his wife Lorraine, due to his obsession with finding more gold. He buried his wife and all the gold he found in a river, which was supposed to be a secret. Laura innocently revealed the secret, which upset Zachariah. He then commited suicide by burning his home down. Charles kept this information from Laura.
