Hannibal briefly replaced Ms. Beadle when the school board did not think that she could teach the town's older boys. He was very strict, and hit students with his ruler. He blamed Laura for pranks secretly perfomed by her classmates. He resigned after being confronted by the school board.

The former bouncer at Miles Standish's saloon, Harlan loved to harass the Ingalls family. He promised to leave them alone and was fired after Jonathan Garvey beat him up badly.

Harlan Potts claims to still have all of his teeth because of garlic. His clay pipe is stolen by Clay Mays, which later causes the fire that destroys the blind school in Walnut Grove.

Hector is the overprotective father of Sylvia. When she was raped, he told her to hide it from everyone because he would be embarassed of her reputation. He later learned that this was wrong, and he ended up killing the rapist when he went after Sylvia again.
